15-312,一個好好好有趣既principle of programming language course,由functional language角度去develop一個有safety既language…但兩個TA都差到死…年尾既Faculty Course Evaluation…當然唔可以錯失良機…真係好鬼興!

About homework: the turn over time is extremely slow for both programming and written assignments. Especially, i want to know if i have done the right thing in my written proofs.  Simply posting a suggestion solution does NOT help at all because there are many ways to write down a proof.  I would rather see exactly why would or wouldn't my proof works.
More, Akiva doesn't quite know what's in the written assignment and Carsten doesn't know about the programming assignment when i go to their office hours.  So instead of having 2 TAs, i feel like i have to find the right TA depending on what i am asking.

Also, Akiva's hand writing is EXTREMELY POOR and it's hard to read.  He never wrote down a complete proof in recitation.  He never show us what we should write down in a proof; he only mentioned a few key steps in a proof and always said "you understand what i am trying to say so i am not writing it down".  Although some of us explicitly demanded him to post up a *COMPLETE* proof after recitation, nothing was posted. (One recitation was video taped, you can take a look at that and you will understand what i am talking about)

In addition, I usually let Akiva take a quick look at my proofs and he would say they looked good, but i usually lost point being grade by Castern.  And i only realize that after about 2.5 months (when i got back my hw3). That pissed me off.

I understand that knowing the materials and teaching are two totally different things.  However, it would be nice if both TAs can do a better job in expressing themselves.  Also, i believe the TAs should devote more time in preparing recitations and grading homework.  If not, why bother to be a TA at the first place if those are some basic requirements of being a responsible TA.

In general, the course material is really great but the recitations are confusing and the homework turn over time is really slow.  Homework is supposed to help us know if we are still catching up.  However, i don't see hw serving this purpose in this course.
